This Is an Offering in Motion

Posted on 10 Iq’ — a day of breath, clarity, and communal voice.

Ceiba Futures was born from ancestral memory, weaving constellations (commonly referred to as, cultural strategy; see below for definition), and creative ceremony. This space—this journal—is an extension of that. A living spiral. A gathering hearth. A place to speak into the wind and remember we are not alone.

We launch this blog on a community day in the Cholq’ij calendar: 10 Iq’, to connect with the ancestor of the wind (Iq’) and the energy of collective responsibility (10). The Cholq’ij teaches us that Iq’ is the breath of life, the voice of the ancestors, the air that carries song and story. And 10 is the number of community—the hands, hearts, and minds that move together.

It is fitting to begin here.

Why This Blog Exists

This is not content for content’s sake.
This is not an algorithm game.

This is an offering in motion—a place where I can reflect, honor, and share the invisible roots behind the visible work of Ceiba Futures.

Here I will explore questions like:

  • What does it mean to weave constellations?

  • How can evaluation become ceremony?

  • What are the ethics of creative worldbuilding as the fruit of diaspora returning to one’s homelands?

  • How do we remember future selves?

I’ll share thoughts tied to community days in the Cholq’ij, stories from Vesat (Sacramento, California) and Santiago Atitlán, reflections from residencies and facilitation work, and ideas still in their seed stage.

An Invitation

You are not just a reader. You are part of this offering.
Feel free to bring your own reflections, share the parts that resonate, or simply read in silence, knowing that the breath of Iq’ moves between us.

Let’s move slowly.
Let’s speak with care.
Let’s remember what is sacred.

Welcome to this unfolding.

In reciprocity,

Definition of WEAVING CONSTELLATIONS: A poetic and relational practice that draws from both earthbound and celestial traditions. It describes the act of connecting cultural threads—stories, symbols, practices, and visions—into a living map that guides community, healing, and futurity. Inspired by Indigenous textile traditions and cosmological systems, weaving constellations honors the sacred interplay between rootedness and expansiveness, memory and possibility. This term is offered as an intentional alternative to cultural strategy, a phrase whose etymology is rooted in war and military planning. Weaving constellations invites a shift away from extractive, hierarchical frameworks toward ancestral technologies of connection, reciprocity, and transformation.
